'Titanic' director James Cameron announces two new TV projects

Now that James Cameron has set records in box office and video sales with "Titanic," he's heading to TV to see if he can conquer the Nielsens. The director is developing a series for next fall as part of the production deal he signed with Fox in September. The supernatural show, which he's working on with "NYPD Blue" producer Charles Eglee, follows the adventures of a gorgeous and superstrong genetically engineered woman. Cameron will be paid for 13 episodes, even if the show is canceled before all are made. (Not that Cameron, who took home an estimated $150 million for "Titanic," really needs to worry about a paycheck.)

Cameron is also developing a Fox miniseries -- tentatively aimed for the beginning of 2000 -- based on Kim Stanley Robinson's sci-fi "Mars Trilogy" books about colonists on the Red Planet. He has pledged to be involved in the production of both projects, but his effort will depend on how immersed he is with a film. Yeesh, you'd think the King of the World would be better at multitasking.
