Madonna, Puff Mommy? While the newly ethereal Material Girl seems like an odd candidate to jump on the rap bandwagon, don't rule out the possibility. The same week that word gets out that the "Ray of Light" diva met with Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard about a potential collaboration, Madonna has taken on a rap-centered pic for a producing project.
Under her MADGUY Films banner, the eternally ambitious blonde has signed a deal to produce a movie called "Ghetto Superstar." Based on the album of the same name by Pras of the Fugees, the $6 million feature will tell the story of a rapper struggling to escape the Brooklyn ghetto to pursue a career in music. Pras will star in the project, and the film will be written and directed by filmmaker Robert Adetuyi. Fugees fans can also look forward to Wyclef Jean and Lauren Hill taking roles.
While "Ghetto" is on the production fast track, Madonna's teaming with O.D.B. is far from a sure thing. O.D.B.'s manager has claimed that Madonna will be lending vocals to a track on the rapper's upcoming album, but representatives for Lourdes' mom claim that, while a meeting between the two artists did take place about a month ago, they did not decide to collaborate.
Either way, don't hold your breath waiting for Madonna to don all things oversize and cut her first rap record. The pop superstar who made her name writhing around on the dance-hall floor chirping "Lucky Star" will be getting back to her girl-power roots by working on Spice Girl Mel C.'s solo album. And she already has her work cut out for her in 1999 with starring roles in the film version of the musical "Chicago" with Goldie Hawn and "The Next Best Thing" with Rupert Everett.
