GREEN-LIT: "American Psycho" is finally set to begin shooting on March 1, with Christian Bale ("Velvet Goldmine") as the titular maniac. Bale had been director Mary Harron's original choice, but Lion's Gate Films offered Leonardo DiCaprio around $20 million for the role. The "Titanic" star backed out in August, and the film is once again a low-budget indie....
OUT ON BAIL: Trouble magnet Bobby Brown paid $2,500 to a Broward County, Fla., court after turning himself in for probation violations. The judge upbraided Brown for his behavior, which included showing up intoxicated for his five-day prison term in September for a 1996 drunk-driving charge, and leaving a Minnesota rehab center after his sentence without permission. Brown will continue his probation in New Jersey and will return for a hearing at an unscheduled date....
IN TURNAROUND: George Clooney and director Steven Soderbergh's football comedy, "Leatherheads," has been put on hold by Universal. It's unclear whether this was for budgetary reasons or a result of the recent executive upheaval at Universal, which came after a year of bombs that included the last Clooney/Soderbergh collaboration, "Out of Sight."
