AWARDED In January, the Sundance Film Festival will present Laura Dern with the annual Piper-Heidsick award for independent vision, which has previously been given to Nicolas Cage, John Turturro, and Frances McDormand. Dern's acclaimed indie work includes "Citizen Ruth," "Rambling Rose," and "Wild at Heart." Her role in "Jurassic Park," however, probably doesn't count....

JUSTICE SERVED Bruce Springsteen won his court case against London-based Masquerade Music, stopping them from selling 19 unreleased songs the Boss recorded from 1972 to '74. The British judge found that Springsteen was the true owner of the songs, and ordered Masquerade to reimburse him $825,000 for his court costs. "I really didn't come here for the money," Springsteen told reporters. "I came here for my music."

REEL DEAL Meg Ryan has signed to produce (but not star in) "All Fall Down" for New Line Pictures. The movie, a supernatural thriller about sexual temptation, is the second otherworldly flick Ryan is doing with New Line: They are currently producing "Lost Souls" for next summer, with Winona Ryder starring as a religious woman who tries to convince a writer that a satanic cult is after him....

TAKING HIS PUNISHMENT Coolio announced that he will not appeal his conviction in Germany last Thursday for theft and assault, even though he still maintains he got a bum rap. Coolio was put on probation for six months and fined $17,000 after he and his band allegedly stole $950 worth of clothing from a boutique and punched the store manager after an autograph signing....

CELEBRATED The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland will celebrate what would have been Elvis Presley's 64th birthday on Jan. 8. Throughout the weekend, the hall will present symposiums, live music, and a scavenger hunt. No word yet on whether there'll be a Ouija board session to channel the King.
