'Days' Break

The director of Arnold Schwarzenegger's new film tells EW Online just how big the actor really is

If less is more these days, someone forgot to tell Universal: The studio is backing the big-in-all-ways Arnold Schwarzenegger in the big-budget "End of Days," a $100 million sci-fi thriller about the only man (guess who) capable of stopping no less than the Devil himself. (Gabriel Byrne takes on the hellish role.)

But this is no simple good-guy/bad-guy tale -- it's also ''about the millennium and faith,'' says director Peter Hyams (''The Relic''), who's relishing the opportunity ''to put a star of Schwarzenegger's caliber in a film about THINGS. I don't care how much you've done or how old you are -- there are times when you're sitting looking at video playback and you say, 'Oh my God, that's Arnold Schwarzenegger.' '' Let's hope for troubled Universal's sake that come this summer, more than $100 million worth of ticket buyers feel the same.
