Sony gets ready to battle the first 'Star Wars' prequel

Most competing studios are running screaming from "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace." But not Sony. The company has bumped Centropolis Entertainment's sci-fi thriller "The 13th Floor," costarring Gretchen Mol and Vincent D'Onofrio, from its April 9 release date right into the path of the long-awaited George Lucas blockbuster. "The 13th Floor," a $20 million thriller that explores the possibility of creating a computer-simulated universe, will now debut one week after "Star Wars"' May 21 opening. "For sci-fi fans, Christmas is in May," explains a Centropolis spokeswoman. "It gives us a chance to capitalize on an audience who will already be out in theaters.'The Phantom Menace' is going to give the whole genre a huge revival."
