The historic rap-rock summit that paired Run-DMC and Aerosmith on ''Walk This Way'' (recently memorialized as one of EW's ''100 Greatest Moments in Rock'') will finally get a sequel. The two acts are reuniting for a follow-up, overseen by original producer Rick Rubin. ''Rick said that since we remade one of Aerosmith's old records in 1986, we should remake an old Run-DMC in 1999,'' says Run, a.k.a. Joseph Simmons.
The new tune is based on the rap trio's '87 hit ''It's Tricky.'' According to Run, the initial, limited release of their late-summer album ''Crown Royal'' will be a double CD, with one disc of new songs, one of greatest hits (à la Michael Jackson's ''HIStory''). In the can are guest appearances by Nas, Method Man, and Lord Finesse (the voice on Fatboy Slim's ''The Rockafeller Skank''); the last tune to be recorded -- if all goes well -- will be a Beastie Boys hookup. But Run sounds most excited about a different rock-rap teaming: ''The Sugar Ray/Run-DMC record is completely sick,'' he promises of ''Here We Go Again.'' ''It should be given out in airsickness bags.''
