In one classic Simpsons, Homer judges the Springfield film festival, where he is enamored with a pointless short of a football striking an old man in the groin. For the Homers of the world, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story is the Citizen Kane of football-in-groin movies. While Vaughn jokes in the commentary that the film's actually a ''period piece that really hasn't gotten its due,'' director Rawson Marshall Thurber admits the obvious: ''Other people's pain is funny.'' Cameos by William Shatner, David Hasselhoff, Chuck Norris, and Lance Armstrong only add to the movie's shameful schadenfreude. By the end of the movie, just the unmistakable sound of a bouncing rubber dodgeball is comic gold.

EXTRAS Two commentaries, deleted scenes, and hidden extras are a treat, but Justin Long's (Ed) collection of clips, paeans to the sport's themes of ''violence, exclusion, and degradation,'' will best satisfy your inner Homer.
