It seems that each new enterprise this gruff-voiced Cali rapper undertakes—hosting Pimp My Ride, acting—comes at the expense of his MC-ing. Working for the first time sans Dr. Dre's production skills, X delivers a disc rich in slopey synth blips and blops but ultimately as unrewarding as it is conflicted. To wit: the hyper-conscientious political statement in ''Cold World'' next to the Glock party in ''Tough Guy.''
