What are your picks for best and worst TV theme songs? — Tim Callahan
I'd wax on about Charles in Charge or The Facts of Life, but once George spoofed the theme from The Greatest American Hero on Seinfeld, those defiantly catchy '80s tunes became official kitsch. Of the current crop, the Von Bondles' rager ''C'mon C'mon'' works perfectly for the macho Rescue Me, and They Might Be Giants' ''Boss of Me'' Is a manic, bratty match for Malcolm in the Middle. On the downside, Gilmore Girls' Carole King-Louise Goffin ditty ''Where You Lead, I Will Follow'' is too maple-sugar snuggly for that sharp show, and while I dig the visuals that open Desperate Housewives, Danny Elfman's underlying instrumentals are jarringly reminiscent of his Simpsons theme.
