The 'Party''s Over

She tells EW Online that everyone in the cast and crew was prepared for the show to wrap forever

When the news hit the ''Party of Five'' set Monday that this low-rated sixth season (where the series lingers in 102nd place) would likely be its last, Neve Campbell tells EW Online that the announcement didn't spoil the party as much as you'd think. ''The atmosphere actually seems to be all right,'' she says. ''A seventh year had been up in the air all year, so everyone's been preparing themselves for [the end].''

However, when the finale approaches, the cast and crew may be weeping more than the on-camera Salingers ever did. ''When we get closer to the end we'll all be a little more sad,'' says Campbell, who had previously announced that she wouldn't be returning for another year anyway. ''But on the other hand you don't want to continue things forever. We all need to move on and challenge ourselves and have different lives.''

Campbell, for one, will be concentrating on movies (she has ''Scream 3'' and the black comedy ''Drowning Mona'' opening in the next two months), and she won't be coming back to television in the near future. ''It's certainly challenging to keep yourself inspired [with a TV series] because you're playing the same character all the time,'' she says. ''But on the other hand there's only so much you can do and it's easy to form habits, and I don't want to do that.'' Well, now she can certainly break the habit of answering to ''Julia.''
