The Chili Peppers performance was introduced by Salma Hayek, whose peekaboo dress gave Jennifer Lopez's Grammy gown a run for its money. Noted Flea, ''She obviously has no shame about her beauty, and I think that's great.'' For his part, Leguizamo was also wearing some pricey threads. His $20,000 alligator jacket was on loan from Calvin Klein, but the host was peeved he didn't get to wear the matching pants: ''They cost $40,000, but he didn't trust me with them because I'm Latin.'' In contrast, Weird Al Yankovic made it clear that his scaly jacket was ''a fake pleather alligator thing. I must stress that no alligators, cows, or poodles were harmed in the making of this outfit.''
Other intriguing wardrobe choices: Foo Fighter Taylor Hawkins' ''101 Dalmatians'' T shirt. ''I'm showing my soft, cuddly side,'' he told EW.com before stomping out a cigarette on the red carpet. ''That 70's Show'''s Ashton Kutcher spent his night dressed as his ''Dude, Where's My Car?'' alter ego -- in full rapper attire, showing off a blackened tooth. ''I'm Smoky McPot,'' he joked. Noting Whitney Houston's nomination for Most Entertaining Public Feud for her run in with Hawaiian authorities, Kutcher applauded the diva for ''smokin' the doobie.''
But it was the get up of No Doubt drummer Adrian Young that proved most eye opening: a teeny weenie miniature tuxedo worn over his privates as a thong (tails in the back covered his cheeks). Young says he brought back the spiked devil horned haircut he wore five years ago because ''everyone else hated the rest of my hair.'' But why go naked? ''We're supposed to have a cabaret theme tonight, so someone suggested I wear a tux -- and I did.''
