PRIVATE JOKES Stanley Kubrick was rumored to have written ''Eyes
Wide Shut'' on paper that couldn't be photocopied. Woody Allen
often doesn't show actors pages of the script that don't concern
their characters. Now Universal's applying the same CIA like
secrecy to... ''American Pie 2.'' Think that's weird? Imagine this:
If you're deemed worthy of sneaking a peek, a messenger will
arrive at your office, remain posted outside your door lest you
try to snap pictures of the script with your minispy camera,
and grab it back when you're done. One actor who has received
clearance is Bill Paxton; he's being courted to play the father
of Stifler (Seann William Scott). Although Paxton has expressed
interest in the randy role, scheduling may be an issue, as he's
currently directing Matthew McConaughey in ''Frailty,'' a thriller
about a serial killer.
CHEAP DATES ''Blade 2,'' in which Wesley Snipes revisits his role as
a vampire fighter, begins filming in Prague on March 12. In
order to keep the movie's budget close to that of the original
($52 million), Snipes and director Guillermo Del Toro (''Mimic'')
are deferring part of their salaries. How bloody sporting of them.
FURTHERMORE Should the anticipated actors' strike go down, some
of Hollywood's finest actors will be employed on the New York
stage. Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, Natalie Portman, Philip
Seymour Hoffman, Allison Janney, and Stephen Spinella are
planning to appear in Mike Nichols' revival of ''The Seagull'' in
New York City this summer.
