Doherty was released after several hours in custody and ordered to attend a hearing on Jan. 26, 2001. It's not the actress' first legal mishap: In 1997, a Beverly Hills judge ordered Doherty to go to anger management counseling after she smashed a beer bottle on a car window during an argument.

KNIGHTED Steven Spielberg will be knighted on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II for his many contributions to England's film industry. Because Spielberg isn't a Brit, he can't technically be a Sir, but he will receive honorary knighthood on Jan. 29, 2001. British ambassador Sir Christopher Meyer will perform the ceremony, which will take place at the Embassy in Washington D.C. ''It's an extraordinary honor,'' said Spielberg spokesman Marvin Levy to Reuters. He has great affection and respect for the British film industry and the British people. Spielberg will also receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame some time in 2001. Not bad for a man who has everything.

Along with Paltrow and McCartney, VIP guests included Rupert Everett, Donatella Versace, and Sting, and his wife Trudie Styler. Madonna's 4 year old daughter, Lourdes, was the flower girl, while baby brother Rocco sat in the arms of a nanny. As expected, the new Mrs. Ritchie wore a a strapless silk ivory Stella McCartney dress. She was also reportedly draped in diamonds on loan from Harry Winston. The groom was outfitted in a teal blazer and a Mackintosh, navy and green plaid kilt.

CHARITY WORK Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson is establishing a nonprofit organization to raise environmental awareness. Just Within Reach: An Earth Foundation will be headquartered in Richardson's home state of Kentucky and then expand internationally. In a press conference held Wednesday in Lexington, Ky., Richardson announced that the foundation's abbreviation, JWR, stand for the initials of his late father, Jerald Wayne Richardson, who died in 1991. ''I feel like our environment ties in to a lot of our problems we have with our health today,'' he said. Hey, at least it's not another fan club.

TUBE NEWS Cable network A&E has paid approximately $4.4 million to air reruns of the last 25 ''Columbo'' movies. Although ''Columbo'' can be seen on Fox Family until the end of the year, starting in 2001, A&E will add the Peter Falk series to its slate of old suspense shows, including ''Murder, She Wrote'' and ''Magnum, P.I.'' Guess the endless ''Law & Order'' repeats just weren't enough.

OBIT Nick Massi, an original member of the Four Seasons, died Sunday of cancer. He was 73. Massi, born in Newark, N.J., joined Frankie Valli in a group called the Four Lovers in the 1950s. By 1961, the band had become the Four Seasons. Massi remained a member until 1965, when, according to the AP, he tired of touring. A bass singer, Massi performed on such hits as ''Sherry,'' ''Big Girls Don't Cry,'' ''Walk Like a Man,'' and ''Rag Doll,'' which was reportedly his favorite song. During his four years as a member, the group released 17 top 40 songs, and toured throughout the States and overseas. The Four Seasons were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. ''He could do four part modern harmonies that would amaze musicians who had studied for years. And he did it all in his head without writing it down,'' Valli told Newark's newspaper, The Star-Ledger, for Thursday's issue.
