''This is the most realistic movie ever made,'' jokes screenwriter Graham Yost on the commentary for Speed: Five Star Collection, a whoop-de-do edition of his bomb-on-a-bus thriller. And yes, most of ''Speed'' is silly, improbable, and implausible. But the true magic of the movie is that none of that matters. It's all about Keanu Reeves acting stoic, Sandra Bullock being adorable, and Dennis Hopper going off the deep end. Oh, and rookie director Jan De Bont's action scenes, which are dissected in admirable detail in this DVD's behind-the-scenes documentaries and multiple-angle featurettes.
The most engaging extra, however, is the commentary by Yost and producer Mark Gordon. While De Bont's separate track is informative as all get-out, Yost and Gordon share an excited, self-deprecating, honest two hours talking about the movie that made both of their careers: everything from selling the original script and whether a movie like this would get made today to their emotions after seeing the crappy sequel they say they had nothing to do with (''Bitter and happy,'' says Gordon).
