On their first studio album in four years, Johnny Rzeznik and company stick close to the soft-rock balladeering of their 1998 hit ''Iris'' but without the epic sweep. Their punk roots are virtually nowhere to be found on Let Love In; now it's all overblown power chords, tambourines, and lovelorn lyrics. That monotony is broken up by Robby Takac's surprisingly hard-edged ''Listen'' and a completely unnecessary version of Supertramp's ''Give a Little Bit'' (they released a live version of the tune in 2004). You'll tap your toes, but you'll hate yourself in the morning.
