Chris Rock
Anyone who doesn't think first-time emcee Chris Rock deserves an automatic five-year Oscar contract should try imagining this year's snoozefest hosted by, say, Billy Crystal. (Now there's something for Matt Drudge to get scared about.) Rock's hilarious opening monologue set the freewheeling tone for the evening: He joked about sending Cuba Gooding Jr. sympathy money after watching Boat Trip and said that Nicole Kidman deserved an Emmy for smiling broadly while Halle Berry took home the 2001 Best Actress trophy. And he kept the laughs coming right to the telecast's end.
