2 Days in the Valley (1996)
THE STORY It's a Pulp Fiction-esque mishmash, a noir comedy set on the outskirts of Hollywood, about a disparate group of gangsters, cops, semi-celebrities, and ordinary folk whose lives intertwine violently over a 48-hour period.
THERON'S ROLE Helga Svelgen, a Norwegian femme fatale and girlfriend to hitman Lee (James Spader)
SHOWCASE MOMENTS Theron battles the similarly statuesque Teri Hatcher in what turns out to be less a catfight than a full-contact, room-destroying brawl. A gun goes off, and Theron's Helga is fatally wounded, though she fights for her life for several more agonizing minutes before finally bleeding to death in the street. It's here that Theron transcends mere vampiness and achieves something like pathos.
