Jon Stewart
Jon Stewart's hosting style may have started out a tad too understated for a gig as big as the Oscars, but he got funnier and more tart as the evening progressed. Sure, the audience at the Kodak didn't howl at his Scientology conversion joke, that dig at Brokeback scribe Larry McMurtry's dungarees, or the evening's most scathing zinger — ''I can't wait till later when we see Oscar's salute to montages'' — but no matter. Stewart's subtle irreverence kept us laughing in front of our TV sets, and in the end, isn't that what really counts?
