Lisa Kudrow
The Comeback
It's a testament to Kudrow's scarily realized performance as faded TV star Valerie Cherish that she managed to score an Emmy nomination for a series that was initially maligned (or, more precisely, misunderstood) by critics and only embraced by a small (albeit rabid) group of fans. Yet by the end of its 13-episode run, Kudrow had turned The Comeback into an experience strangely akin to watching Valerie punch her nemesis Paulie G in the gut — painful, hilarious, uncomfortable, and triumphant. If Kudrow takes home this year's Emmy, count on her supporters to paraphrase the classic Aunt Sassy catchphrase: ''We needed to see that!''
