By 2001, Smith had married, fathered a daughter, and turned 30, so it's no wonder he felt he'd outgrown Jay and Silent Bob. Nonetheless, he sent them off with one last blast, making them the heroes of this road-trip comedy, in which they head to Hollywood to prevent the filming of a Bluntman and Chronic movie, meeting along the way a variety of wacky characters (including a statuesque jewel thief, played by Mrs. Smith, Jennifer Schwalbach). In other words, it was a project largely aimed at Smith's cult of fans or, as he put it, a ''valentine to the people who helped put us here now.'' Still, he told EW after he'd filmed it: ''It's just time to move on.''
