Grey's creator Shonda Rimes made the most of the coveted post-Super Bowl spot, luring in football fans with a girl-on-girl shower-scene dream sequence that, at season's end, would be turned on its ear by, among other things, a b-b-b-bomb in the OR, the death of Denny (and of Izzy's medical career?), and Meredith's impossibly good-looking love triangle, stuck as she is between Patrick Dempsey and Chris O'Donnell. —Mickey O'Connor
