In Lauren Weisberger's roman à clef, Miranda was the editrix readers were supposed to hate, but Streep's big-screen interpretation (which is generating serious Oscar buzz) turned the character into the season's ultimate anti-hero: icy-cold, cunning, and hilarious with just a touch of vulnerability. Who knew the ability to deliver a subtly devastating brush-off ''that's all'' could count as a superpower?
