A Walk to Remember (2002)
I finally watched this movie, an adaptation of a novel by Nicholas ''The Notebook'' Sparks, long after its release date at the urging of a friend. I love Mandy Moore, I do, but the film about the high school romance between a plain-Jane devout Christian (Moore) and an aimless popular kid (Shane West) just looked a little too sugary for my taste. Also going against it: the oh-so-annoying Hollywood idea that putting glasses and frumpy clothes on a pretty girl makes her instantly repulsive.
And yet I love this movie anyway, because of the very sweetness I thought I'd hate; I fell hopelessly for the two leads' charm in what turns out to be one great love story. Moore's and West's portrayals are honest and downright endearing, and it actually pains you to find out that they can't be together forever and ever. That Nicholas Sparks...
