Failure to Launch (2006)
Okay, yes. I know. ''That movie sucks.'' I hear this a lot from people almost all of whom have never seen it. Why won't they? Because it's ''bad,'' clearly. But ask yourself this: Do you like Bradley Cooper? Check. Do you like Zooey Deschanel? Check. Oscar winner Kathy Bates? Bingo. And who couldn't use a little more Sarah Jessica Parker in their lives, Sex and the City fans? (Trust me, we know who you are.) Top those talents off with that laconic drawl of Matthew McConaughey (oh yeah, he was that ''I keep getting older, they stay the same age'' guy in Dazed and Confused, wasn't he, and he was great!) and the premise of parents (Bates, with NFL geek geezer Terry Bradshaw) hiring an interventionist (Parker) to get their 35-year-old nester of a son (McConaughey) out of the house an idea as dumb and silly and appealing as Old School, Wedding Crashers, and You, Me and Dupree and ask yourself now: Are you really afraid this romantic comedy sucks... or that it might just suck you in?
