Best Montage
The tribute to foreign-language films
Given how long this year's ceremony stretched, did we really need montages about actors playing writers, or how America has presented itself in the movies? The best clip reel, though, was the one featuring moments from classic foreign-language films, introduced by ambassadors Catherine Deneuve and Ken Watanabe and expertly compiled by Giuseppe Tornatore, famous for the montage of great screen kisses at the end of his Cinema Paradiso. Let's hope that seeing scenes from such films as The Bicycle Thief, Rashomon, and Day for Night sent viewers scrambling to add titles to their Netflix queues.
