There Will Be Blood (2007)
Earlier this year, Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best Actor Oscar for his meaty, intense performance as larger-than-life oilman Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood. The role is a rare treat for moviegoers, since Day-Lewis is famous for not working very often (no wonder, since his Method-like insistence on immersing himself in a role 24/7 for months at a time must be thoroughly exhausting), and he's been known to take long breaks from acting to do things like work as a cobbler in Italy (as he did during the five years between The Boxer and Gangs of New York). So count yourself lucky that Day-Lewis graced us with his presence a handful of times over the last two decades, in the memorable roles shown in this gallery.
