The Ballad of Jack and Rose (2005)
Years before she married him, Rebecca Miller sent Day-Lewis her screenplay about an ailing dad and his teenage daughter, whose Edenic existence on an old hippie commune is threatened by urban development and the arrival of the man's girlfriend and her two teenage sons. It would be another 12 years before Miller would direct her husband (in a haunting performance) as Jack, Camilla Belle as daughter Rose, Catherine Keener as Jack's girlfriend Kathleen, and, as one of Kathleen's sons, Paul Dano, who would go on to play Day-Lewis' preacher nemesis in There Will Be Blood.
