The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988)
The first big leading-man role for Day-Lewis was this sexually frank adaptation of Milan Kundera's novel about a love triangle set in 1968, against the backdrop of the crushed Czech rebellion against the Soviets. Day-Lewis smoldered as Tomas, a womanizing doctor who romances both Lena Olin and Juliette Binoche.
