84. LIONEL BARRYMORE
It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
Director Frank Capra considered Claude Rains and Vincent Price, among others, for the part of the grasping old miser Mr. Potter. But Barrymore plays mean better. From his owlish stare to his wretched comb-over to his brutal put-downs of poor fiscal rival George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) ''Miserable little clerk, crawling in here on your hands and knees and begging for help!'' Potter remains the poster boy for robber-baron arrogance.
