Before Sweeney Todd, the last time Johnny Depp sang in a movie musical was this John Waters cult classic, in which he starred as Wade ''Cry-Baby'' Walker, a 1950s leather-jacketed rebel from the wrong side of the tracks who falls for a rich, square girl (Amy Locane). Even before Edward Scissorhands (released later that year), this movie proved for the first time that the 21 Jump Street cop could hold the big screen as a leading man.
