At age 83, Into the Wild's Holbrook has earned his first nomination for playing a man who bonds with a college-aged youth. Forty years ago, he bonded with the teens in this surreal exploitation classic about a rock star (Christopher Jones) who becomes president after he gets the Constitution amended to allow teens to vote. Holbrook stands out as Sen. Johnny Fergus, a politician who helps the flower children succeed in Washington — until he, too, falls victim to their distrust of anyone over 30.
