Jaws (1975)

A renowned character actor, Shaw wasn't the first choice to play saltine-snacking shark hunter Quint. But he turned the small-fish role into a big-fish career capper, crowned with a mesmerizing speech about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. The extent of Shaw's contribution to that monologue as a writer has been disputed, but his almost blinkless delivery still has more bite than anything else in the movie.
