Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Fans of the 1988 sci-fi spoof Earth Girls Are Easy should remember Carrey as the furry alien whose spaceship ends up doing laps in Julie Brown's swimming pool, and it was this role that helped establish the actor as the go-to guy for slapstick-y lowbrow humor (Ace Ventura, Dumber and Dumber, etc). While later roles in films like The Truman Show established Carrey's emotive range, it was his hilarious yet poignant portrayal of the (literally) lovesick Joel Barish in the Oscar-winning Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that should have earned Carrey more than just a place in our hearts.
