32. JACK NICHOLSON
The Shining (1980)
He sees ghosts. He types ''All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy'' over and over. He busts down a door with an ax. But nothing about caretaker Jack Torrance is as chilling as the eyes of the man playing him. Nicholson has many killer lines in The Shining, but he is often at his most powerful when he just sits and stares; he's the only actor who can make the calm even more intense than the storm that follows it.
