Wackiest Speech
Tilda Swinton
Swinton's Best Supporting Actress acceptance speech was full of surprises, starting with the fact that she got to make it (she beat such favored competitors as Cate Blanchett, Ruby Dee, and Amy Ryan) and including that unusual one-shouldered black gown she was wearing. ''Happy birthday, man,'' she said, addressing her Oscar statuette on his 80th anniversary. ''I have an American agent who is the spitting image of this. Really truly the same shape head and, it has to be said, the buttocks.'' The Michael Clayton actress also thanked costar/executive producer George Clooney by riffing on his most embarrassing previous role. ''The seriousness and the dedication to your art, seeing you climb into that rubber bat suit from Batman and Robin, the one with the nipples, every morning under your costume, on the set, off the set, hanging upside-down at lunch you rock, man.'' So do you, Tilda.
