The Parent Trap (1998)
Lohan started as a child actress on the soap Another World, but she became a star at the tender age of 11 with Disney's remake of its classic 1961 identical-twins comedy. ''Lindsay has a good head on her shoulders,'' director Nancy Meyers told EW in 2004. ''Even when she was 11, she was focused, centered, and real. Supertalented, and she's funny.'' Not only did Lohan deliver a winning performance (two winning performances, actually) that could stand alongside Hayley Mills' work in the original, but she also proved her versatility (one twin had a credible British accent), established herself as Disney's go-to gal for remakes of its chestnuts (she'd have two more in her future), and showed an early flair with evening wear.
