Director Billy Crystal romanticizes the 1961 home run chase between Yankee teammates Roger Maris (Barry Pepper) and Mickey Mantle (Thomas Jane). Maris breaks the record, but just as in real life, Mantle wins your heart. Jane captures the Mick's wounded inner child too aware of his own mortality, and Crystal succeeds in making a Yankee film that silences even the most rabid Yankee-hater.
