THE WINNING TEAM (1952)
Larry Lucchino, the president of the Boston Red Sox, once called the rival Yankees the ''evil empire.'' How appropriate, since the man who made that phrase famous, President Ronald Reagan, squared off against the hated Yanks in this biopic of St. Louis Cardinals' pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander. Recovering from illness and bouts with the bottle during the 1926 World Series, Alexander struck out Hall of Fame Yankee Tony Lazzeri to win the championship.
