CHARACTER Jeanie, Los Angeles teenager

IMPERILED? Jeanie is one of four fast-living girls (Kandice Stroh, left, and Marilyn Kagan, right, play two of the others) who experiment with sex, drug use, and other self-destructive behavior in a landscape apparently bereft of parental supervision.

EMPOWERED? The most sensible of the group, Jeanie is a mother-hen of sorts to the others. She's also the only one who seems to have a viable relationship with her own mother (Sally Kellerman).
