OCTOBER SKY (1999)

CHARACTER Homer Hickam Jr., a West Virginia teenager who defies his family's expectations that he'll be a coal miner, and instead begins to make homemade rockets in his backyard.

LOVE INTEREST They all laughed when Homer said outer space was his lady, but dude grew up to be a NASA scientist. Oh snap!

HEARTTHROB FACTOR: 1 Not to disparage budding teenage engineers, but it's simply not that kind of movie.
