Miranda doesn't waste time telling you what she thinks. She can make you laugh till you pee your pants. I approve of her spouse (an important factor when making friends with married folks). And, as the ideal mommy friend, Miranda would never offer unsolicited child-rearing advice, or talk about her kid ad nauseam (leaving me more time to talk about my kid ad nauseam). I wouldn't be expected to coo over her kid because, like Miranda, ''I don't like any children but my own.''

Here's how I picture one of our mommy dates: While our toddlers fling food and create a 3-foot radius of debris around our table, we'll eat $8 slices of cake and laugh away the afternoon, making sure to leave a nice tip because we don't have to clean up the mess. — Connie Yu
