The erstwhile Clark Griswold turned down big-concept ideas in favor of homier takes. ''He didn't want to do anything that felt too set up,'' says Schoeller. ''So we came up with these ideas that were closer to what he does around the house every day.'' (His wayward equine was added in by computer after Chase expressed concern that the horse might attack the crew.) The daylong shoot impressed even Schoeller: ''I loved his house -- this whole suburban Westchester thing wasn't as bad as I thought,'' he says. ''It's pretty up there.''
