35. MICHAEL J. FOX
As preppy Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties, Fox became both a parody and a beacon of Reagan-era conservatism. (He brought that same cuddly unscrupulousness to Spin City's devious deputy mayor.) We had a sense his characters would do the right thing once all other options had been exhausted. Like the time Alex interrupted his Princeton admissions interview to console his heartbroken sister. ''I am just going to have to face the cold, hard truth,'' he winced. ''I'm just a helluva nice guy.''
