For four seasons on NYPD Blue, L.A. Law alum Smits proved just how complex a good guy can be. Tough but sensitive, Smits' Det. Bobby Simone was the perfect foil for his prickly partner Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz). On the streets or at the station, Bobby was grace personified. And as those censor-taunting season 3 sex scenes with Kim Delaney made clear, he was also the 15th Precinct's Sexiest Man Alive. Bobby's death in season 6 broke our hearts — but thankfully Smits brought us another righteous man in 2004: The West Wing's president-to-be Santos.
