Since I'm not sure if Much Ado About Nothing's Don Pedro was black in Shakespeare's text, I'm going to say that this John Grisham thriller was the first time that Washington was cast in a role initially conceived for a white actor. And, while he doesn't file his career's best performance, he still blows a young Julia Roberts off the screen.
