7. FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS (HBO)
This comedy makes me giddy. Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement play two folksinger naïfs from New Zealand trying to make it in New York, with the help of earnest, list-making manager Murray (Rhys Darby), who also works at the NZ consulate. Done with aesthetic simplicity and extremely straight faces, Conchords is modest, low-key, and very funny, tying in jokes about everything from Labyrinth-era David Bowie to band-rotunda tours. Plus, the duo's spoofy songs are so catchy, you almost forget the lyrics are perfectly ridiculous: ''You're so beautiful/Like a tree/Or a high-class prostitute'' is best hummed in mixed company.
