LISA'S BESTS
5. No End in Sight
It's not the most dynamic-looking documentary
of the year, in good part because No End
in Sight wasn't made by a documentarian but
rather by a political scientist. It's not the snappiest
attention grabber either, since writer-director Charles
Ferguson prefers to build a slow, authoritative case
for his conclusion that the U.S. has made a series of
grievous mistakes in Iraq since the start of the current
war. But what the movie lacks in turbocharged production
values it more than makes up for in clarity,
logic, depth, urgency, and respectful neutrality of tone.
With not one gimmick or wisecrack, No End in Sight calmly devastates us by trusting audiences to reason
for ourselves. How revolutionary.
