LISA'S BESTS
3. I'm Not There
It takes six fine actors to approximate one Bob
Dylan in Todd Haynes' freewheeling, cubist
portrait of an artist who contains multitudes.
And even then, the ''Dylan'' of Haynes' amazingly
audacious bio-fantasy is such a devilish changeling
that repeat viewings are in order. Come back a second
time to re-enjoy Cate Blanchett's killer turn as Dylan
in his Don't Look Back era, a third to ID the filmmaker's
seriously playful homages to the cinematic
styles of the period, and a fourth simply to swoon under
the spell of the music. Radical in concept, risk-taking
in execution, and almost obsessively erudite in the
details that have been transmogrified into allegory, I'm
Not There crackles with brainy love.
