Are there any clichés more deadly than honeysuckle, white-trash Southern gothic clichés? Dakota Fanning, as a 12-year-old Elvis freak raised by her boozy daddy in a shack, is annoyingly precocious—until her character gets raped, at which point the film stops being inert...and turns ugly and inert. Did I mention that Fanning sings ''Hound Dog''? About 58 times?
